• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

Greetings to All -

I'm a total novice that just purchased my very first grandfather clock and found this wonderful web site. It's a 5 tube Colonial and seems to be in very good working order although I'm sure it could use a good cleaning/oiling. There is no serial number plate on the inside. There is only a metal plate that says "Solid Mahogany Colonial Mfg. Co. Zeeland, Mich."

The number 1438 is stamped on the back of the case. Also on the back, in chalk is written:

1438
Move – 53
M231-49H

The clock has not been delivered yet so I only have a couple of pics at the moment. From going thru other threads I'm guessing that this clock was produced in the late 20's early 30's but I'm hoping that folks here can share additional information. BTW, I've read Andy Dervan's 2014 excellent article on the history of the company. Good stuff!

Classic,

Welcome to the board!

Others here are more informed on Colonials than I am and hopefully they will be along shortly.

When you receive the clock, please provide pictures of the back of the movement. That may enable us to provide more information to you.

Regards.

i know a local guy that has this clock. i was over looking at it one day. his movement is a kienzle. i believe this one looks to be the same. there weren't very many tube chiming grandfather clocks with chain driven movements. welcome to the forum.
