Been driving me nuts. Clock runs fine but when I put the minute hand on it stops after minutes.
Any solutions? Thanks.

Popeye,
If the hands touch each other anywhere, the clock will stop. Also, if the minute hand touches the hour tube when you tighten up the hand, it will stop. Check these.

That one has a friction cannon set-up, but that shouldn't affect it only with that hands on. The hands are pinned? Maybe the hand washer is too coned?

Try just putting on the minute hand without the hour hand. It has a hand nut, SB.

The hour tube in the picture is to high. Something is not allowing the tube to go on far enough. It has to set low enough that the squared end, for the minute hand has clearance. You have assembled something to high on the arbor. Check and make sure that the minute wheel is not to high. This will raise the hour tube. Or the gear behind the hour tube is not seated low enough.

Yeah; Often inexpicable. I've had several here where with no other obvious reason this was the problem and even have one on my bench presently with this problem. Most often I end up nipping a few thou off the hour tube to get the needed clearance.

If you want the clock original without altering the length of the tube. You will need to find the reason why.

It's possibly a misleading picture too. The cannon seems to be too long, but probably just needs pushed back.

Well runs with hour hand alone and runs with minute hand alone, but not together.

It would seem, then, that there is some interference in close the the cannon. Can you push the hour hand on any farther? It's gotta be in there somewhere, just where it is difficult to see.

It sounds like you are not pushing the hour hand on far enough to not interfere with the minute hand bushing.

Thanks-Well that was it I pushed down all the way on the hour hand and it ran all night and is cranking.
Thanks again to all!

Once you cleared the interference it solved your problem. Good to hear.
