just got this off my local craigslist... $40, and they delivered.

the only identifying mark is the 'C' on the movement... which looks a little waterbury to me... but makes me think 'colonial'... unless i'm blanking on something obvious?

weights are about the same, just over 6lbs. someone obviously mucked around with the strike send and bent things... but they un-bent pretty easily and it's now cleaned and running.

    thoughts?

thx, kevin... at that price it goes in my 'no brainer impulse purchase' bucket... although i truly have no place to put it.

guess self-quarantine and one too many clocks will make me actually get to cleaning the garage... one of these days.

since i have clocks on every wall in every room of my house i try to arrange them so they show the best and work with the ones on either side of each... it's getting trickier with each new one to avoid having piles of clocks stacked on top of each other.

here are some shots of my view from the oakland hills looking west toward san francisco...

so why the 'C' on the front of the movement?

Don't know what the C is, but I worked on this clock for a lady, and it had the same movement.

    Bruce,

The only trademark in mikrolisk that is similar to your "C" belongs to Cyma Watch Company, S.A. of Switzerland:
    bildmarke_tavannessa18.jpg

Cyma did make alarm clocks and the like, but I really do not think your movement is a Cyma. Others may know better.

Some clockmakers, like Lenzkirch, would designate "second quality" movements as "2"or "2Q", so perhaps the "C" on your movement represents something akin to that (I am not implying that your movement is second quality!).

I also checked the Japanese clock logos and found nothing.

The case is unique and is quite decorative.

    Congrats and enjoy!

    Regards.

EDIT: I see Steven and I were typing at the same time. Now we know who made the movement!

Brilliant, we are at home now probably for 3 months or more, that would make things better. Still we should get a lot of housework done.

Quite a striking case, especially the door and $40 is a sin.

Like your new family member, but like the 2 weight left of the fireplace even better. What can you tell me about that one?

franke movement in what remains of a nothing-to-write-home-about german tall clock case (missing base and top, turned into a wall clock)... one of the first movements i ever worked on, and running great ever since.

here's the original thread: what is it?

Here’s a variant, Waterbury tall case clock, with a similar movement. Found it on EBay.
    Cheers,

I believe you have a New Haven clock as I have one with the same type of suspension and leader. Was told by an old timer the ladder chain is a dead give away

Maybe I am missing something. How are the weights brought up without stopping the pendulum?

the pendulum is in front of the weights on both movements.... on the other hand, it can be a little tricky grabbing and pulling the inner chains (to raise the weights) without stopping the pendulum.... do-able, but have to pay attention

I'm not crazy about the stained glass front. Do you think it's original? I'd rather see thick beveled glass.

the leaded glass looks original to me, but it's obviously some generic german-ish case and dial accommodating a (in this case) new haven chain driven movement... no markings on the gong. actually, there are a lot of similar looking mission-style built-ins in some of the older houses around uc berkeley... i was thinking the clock might look good in one of them (although they're all slowly being remodeled/modernized).
