This is an old mantel clock that I picked up probably 15 years ago. I would like to identify year of manufacture (approximate timeframe) and maybe the clock company. There are no markings on the dial face that I can see with a magnifying glass. The movement is stamped "Made In Germany" and that's the only identification I can see on the movement. Hi,

As you know, your clock was made in Germany and is commonly termed a « Napoleon hat » due to the shape. It was made in the 1920’s-1930’s. As to the manufacturer, I would guess Mauthe or Haller, but this is just a gut feeling.

Regards.

Napoleon hat is the nomenclature used primarily in the U.K. In the U.S., the style of case would be termed tambour. I have also heard the style of these clocks as camelback.

In horology, there seems to be at least three terms for the same thing. :)

Regards.
