• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

Hi,

I know in the past Jeff Hamilton has sold his clockmaker's beat book but now that he is retired, the last clockmaker's beat cannot be purchased anywhere. I did see that last year he posted that the 2021 version has been completed but I never saw any for sale. Does anyone know how to get the current data? Or can there be a folder added to this site where users can add their clock beat data for others to use?

Thanks in advance,

Ron

You can get a current copy (the 2021 edition) of the Beat Book by emailing your name, address, and phone number to Jeff Hamilton at jeff@clockmaker.com. He will send you an online invoice for payment. He has mostly retired, but my understanding is that he has a shipment of the books coming in the next couple of weeks.

Knowing the beat can be important in a few cases but it's rarely necessary to actually need a number. You simply read the clock your working on. Willie X

FYI, you may find these two threads interesting regarding finding target beat rate.

In this thread, I discussed using a photosensor and counter to count pendulum swings.

In this thread, in the latter part of post 17, I talk about the idea that a timing machine or timing app will not work unless it's programmed with the EXACT target beat rate of the clock, AND it will not properly autodetect the target beat rate unless it's already very close to correct, AND some clocks don't have a target beat rate of a multiple of 1800 BPH or 3600 BPH and will never autodetect properly in many machines and apps.

PS my name is Ron but not the same as the OP.

May your beat rate be stable and your beat error be small. Ron
