My most recent find is an American Watch Co. Wm. Ellery 7J, SN 94445, in an American Watch Co. eagle coin hunter case - SN AA36. Does anyone have any information on these "eagle" cases, such as how the idea of the eagle stamping came about in the first place? It appears to me that my eagle case has a rather low serial number, and the Wm. Ellery SN 94445 dates to 1863. Here are some photos:

Jerry - Good find. I will be interested if anyone can elaborate on the AWC eagle question as I have a case much like yours but it is gilt and numbered SS229. It appears they had a double letter/number code for material etc.. Mike
