Here are some pictures of this Citizen Alarm Date 51301-Y wristwatch. Can you tell if it is real or fake? Thanks. RSCN2928.JPG RSCN2934.JPG RSCN2932.JPG

I guess my first question is, why would anyone want to fake a Citizen? Even though somewhat unusual a faked Rolex is MUCH easier to sell. So, I say, "real."

Open the back and if it has a citizen movement, it is real. To be honest I don't think I have ever come across a fake Citizen.

Thanks. Is there a trick to opening the back?

If you are unsure of how to open it, take it to a local watch shop or local jeweler. They should be able to open it without damaging it.

Ditto this advise. Although, 99.9% sure it's real, if you need to know for certain have a watchmaker open the case for you.

Believe it or not such watches do in fact exist.

I'll take it to a jeweler. I hope she will know how to open it. We're in a rural area. Good, trustworthy jewelers are hard to find.

Even someone that changes batteries in quartz watches can help you. If you have a battery place/jewelry store they can help. Otherwise take several close-up pics of the case back from the side and maybe someone here can help you get it off.

Thanks. I'll try the local jeweler first.

Do you believe there are fake Seikos? If so, why not Citizens, as the high-spec quartz models are very desireable, along with auto chronos like the bullheads.

I was being somewhat 'tongue in cheek'. I wont dispute your comment (even Timex has a few models that are 'desirable') but in my eyes the vast majority of Timex/Citizen and many similar brands are just not 'desirable' watches.

That's one reason why I questioned the watch's validity because it seems to be a more desirable model.

Actually Citizen has some nice models in their lineup and are in no way in the same category as a Timex!

JoyF did show us a fake Seiko! It is a long time since I've seen a fake a Seiko, but the odd one is around!

oh they are around, here is one, on first glance it looks real-ish, the movement has a similar layout to the real one, but the plates screws are different sizes, the wheel that drives the magic fingers autowind has on the real Seiko the arbor runs through both the upper and lower plates, so it winds nice and flat, the fake has the arbor only through the top plate and wobbles all over the place.

someone went to a lot of trouble with this, all the numbers stamped etc, but you put this along side a real 7009 and you can see the difference, like chalk and cheese.

I still have to ask why?, if they went to this much trouble with a Rolex fake and try and past it as real I might understand, but you can buy a real Seiko 5 for $50 new, why bother making a fake?.

Recently found out this was a fake, five years after buying it when the battery needed changing. Luckily I paid a low price for this and a genuine Seiko Sportura Perpetual calendar model, so I don't care!

The jeweler popped the back off. I brought it home and now that I have put the back on again, it will not run. It was running fine previously. Now I wind but no movement. Any ideas?
