Hello-

Acquired through auction last month a parlor clock listed as an Ansonia “King”. But on the back is a label which says “Cintra”. Looks like it was refinished, a light brown shellac, I think. The interior of the case is painted black. (Original?) The movement has no markings but seems more upscale than the clockworks I seen. (photo) There are only 4 mounting screws for the movement indicating it may be original to the case. The dial, however, although marked as Ansonia (the letter “A’ in a square, in a square) looks like it might not belong to the movement as the winding holes seem off-center to the posts when the hands shaft is centered with the center hole in the face. But wind-able.

The glass has the hanging pot design which Timesaver’s carries as a rub-on. It seems etched or sandblasted into the glass which is old and warped. But the pattern is very faint and incomplete in some areas.

Otherwise the clock is in good shape runs. The movement seems pretty clean. But I gave it a solvent rinse followed by 50 minutes in the ultrasonic bath. In between I blow out the pivots with a can of brake cleaner. (Yes, I know. I should disassemble and inspect a movement for ultrasonic-ing. Must practice disassembly first on some beater movements I have.)

The Clock looks exactly like an Ansonia King. It runs and the case has only a few imperfections. I found nothing online about Cintra. But the name may be of Brazilian or Portuguese origin.

Any thoughts? Timely Fool.

Sorry.

That should read "There are only four mounting HOLES for the movement IN THE CASE.....indicating the movement may be original....."
