• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

Could you please help me with identification of this pocket watch?
Can it be Bovet?? One my happy customer advised me to do deeper
research of this over sized (55mm in diameter) Chinese market pocket
watch. He believes it's Bovet. Thanks a lot.

I have never seen anything like it!

I just want to ask an additional question.... If made in China with all the decorations appealing to a Chinese market, why is the dial not with Chinese numbers? Did they use the same Roman numbers as many western countries....... or was it made for export?

I'm not so sure if it is Bovet or not. I thought that Bovet would have used the Duplex escapement with bat wings on the balance wheel.
Here is a link to a website that deals with Chinese Market watches.
http://www.rawbw.com/~hbv/horology/chinese.html
Jaquet - Chapuis has a whole section on Pg.144 that deals with the Chinese marked watch.
There were other makers that also had a Chinese Trademark.

I believe it has been made in Switzerland, because a few Chinese people told me it's old inscription but not correctly spelled. So they believed it's been made in Europe for Chinese market.. But I'm not sure.

there is a book "La Montre Chinoise Par A.Chapuis" in French, there you will find a complete description of the brand.
I will only say that the movement is a Swiss made
made for CHINESE MARKET

hieroglyph on the watch corresponds to Leo Juvet not Bovet.
