• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

I got mu clock with the Franz Hermle 451-033 movement running. The chimes aren't as loud as I would like. Is there any way to make them louder?

Hermle side hammers are the worst if you're asking me. The object is to get the hammer to hit harder, usually changing the distance from hammer lift to rod will do little effect on the side mount movement.

Adjusting the the damper spring bars is the best way achieve this. Putting a little more tension on the return spring can help also.
Make sure the hammer hits the rod square and just past the taper. Hammer tip material helps also, the harder the better. I believe BFI or maybe Merritts sells the harder brown tips.

Further more the clock case and where the chime block is mounted can matter. Good Luck

The short answer would be no, unless the adjustments (just mentioned) are off. It's the price you pay for having a thin case with no sound board ... Willie X

Some clocks have holes in the back door with mesh covering them so the sound gets out and the dust can’t get in. I’ve seen some mantle clocks with holes drilled on the bottom below the chime rods to allow the sound to get out.
