Hi, Looking with a Chelsea person familiar with this model. I am not well versed on this model Chelsea with center seconds arbor and the center wheel arbor assy. I want to know how this comes apart to clean the parts and plate hole. It would seem that I have to drive the center from the geared tube on the top side where the minute hand was pressed on. Is this correct?

hi, found the answer to my question by doing a search online. found US Navy repair manual that shows entire inspection and reconditioning step by step. I have attached info about manual.
The answer to my question is the cannon pinion is lifted off the center wheel arbor with the same hand remover levers as are used to remove the hands from dial. The levers are placed under the cannon pinion between the plate and the cannon is pressed upward from plate. much the same as any other cannon pinion. In this case the size of the cannon and arbor threw me off making it seem more involved. Joe

It's one of those things I'd leave in place unless it's worn enough to need a bushing.

These usually come off very easily. No reason not to remove it clean the hole and polish the pivot. There is no way to properly clean it with out removing it.

Karl, you are quite right. Since this cannon pinion does not slip to allow for time adjustment, it seemed more complex than it is. I tried to use levers to pry the cannon up and off from plate, but the clearance to plate was so slight getting tools under and beyond the gear teeth was difficult. I ended up finding a staking tool that just fit the inner center wheel arbor, one light tap and the wheel dropped thru. Much to do about nothing but I learned much and found good repair manual for these clocks. And yes center hole and pivot will now be properly cleaned, polished, and oiled. Joe .
