Jasper Taylor and Charles Gretton after case restoration by Scott Bennett. The Gretton needs some missing brass ornaments which we are struggling to find at the moment. As usual his work is first class.

That is remarkable, looks great. Well rescued.

Is the Gretton movement getting the same treatment?

It needs some serious work as well. Restoration is more by the heart than commonsense but he is a favourite maker especially after the book was published.

I understand that. I look at it as a commitment for me, the clock, and future caretakers.

Hi Dean, I get the feeling that you are trying to avoid going down thelong and pricey tunnel of having to have these pieces individually carved and cast, I can't say I blame you !!
But also I know your preference is for some authenticity over the generic cast pieces that are produced now.
It is pretty unlikely that you will just find the exact designs you need, but then you never know !

Dean, are those two different clock? They look great. I have a basket top, I have to get to one day and I'm running out of days.

Cheers, Ralph

Yes Ralph, two clocks from a similar age with similar movements as well. I think the Gretton (basket top) is probably slightly older than the Jasper Taylor (which has its movement in the photos)

A couple more cases done. Smaller one is circa 1760 and the larger one late 18thC plus before photos. The smaller one by Joseph Bosley was in terrible condition although it doesn't look too bad in the photos. There were quite a few cracks and lifting pieces which had been over painted in a modern enamel paint! The surface of the larger clock by John Pritchard was completely ruined as you can see.
