I recently acquired an American Watch Co PW which was in very rough shape. I got it because of the fairly nice 6 oz coin silver HC which houses it. The hallmark in the case back is one I have never seen. The watch in the case (which I believe is original to the case) is a model 57 Wm Ellery SN 186,682. So, this case would date to around 1865.

I've enclosed a pic of the hallmark. It looks like a lion or horse in the cut corner rectangle. Any one know who the maker is? 86834.jpg

Tom, could that just be a 'fake' British sterling silver mark - i.e. lion passant guardant?

DAvey, That is possible about the "fake" lion passant. The case is definitely an American made case.
