Cartier Santos automatic watch repair

I have a Cartier Santos automatic watch which is losing time. It was given to me by my late father. The cost of mainstream repair is way beyond me. Is there any talented people either near to Milton Keynes or willing to have a look by post? I recognise I will have to pay for this expertise but I have no stomach for the £400 quotes I have had so far! Thanks.

I suggest that you join the watchrepairtalk forum and ask there as well. Lots of Brits who post/listen regularly. They can direct you to possible solutions. This came up the other day and someone suggested a watchmaking school that might do repairs.
I have a Santos with an ETA 2671. Perhaps yours as well. Never worked on that particular movement, but I doubt it is much of a challenge. Donor movements selling on ebay are relatively inexpensive. So all in all, a straightforward repair IMHO.

Hi thanks for that, that's a very helpful reply. How could I establish what movement my watch uses? Is it written on the rear of the case or on the movement itself?

It should be on the movement, but if you aren't familiar with opening cases I should leave it to whoever you send it to for an opinion on its condition. If you're looking for a qualified repairer in your vicinity, check the BHI accredited repairers list.
