I picked this up at a recent meeting and have not been able to find the trademark anywhere.

I believe it's German. It strikes on the hour and once at the half hour. The barrels are both drilled on the wheel ends. The trademark stamp appears to be a "W" intertwined with an "A".

    What do you think?

Eric, what appears to be your "AW" mark is found in www.Mikrolisk.de as follows:

    A. Weber & Cie.jpg

This belongs to Auguste Weber, A. Weber & Cie a Swiss company founded in Bern. The mark was registered 25 June 1934. It's not exactly the same as yours but the similarity is too good to not be the same company. Yours may well be an earlier version, perhaps another user will be able to confirm. I'm sure Andreas would be interested to add this to Mikrolisk if it can be positively associated with Weber & Cie.
