Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

I'm trying to identify this old Seth Thomas "black" mantle clock for a friend. I tried finding it in my copy of Tran's two volume collection on Seth Thomas Clocks, but had no luck. I'd put its date at around 1890 to 1900. It has an early No.44 "Head & Shoulders" movement. The dial and hands look to have been replaced. I can't tell from the photo if the case is adamantine (perhaps on the very top), or if it's a simple black enamel painted case; I'm thinking the later. I'm trying to find out if the date code is stenciled on the bottom. The label is mostly gone, and I can't make out much from the photos sent to me. The movement needs a suspension spring and most likely a complete overhaul. Any help ID'ing the model is most appreciated.

Regards -- Mike

Quick update. I found a link to a restored Adamantine case model called the "Delos" that matches this case pretty closely. The "Delos" model shows up in Tran's book, but the columns in the illustration don't look anywhere close to this photo.

Thanks EW. Those two clocks match up nicely. I guess the clock is a "Delos", assuming Ruby Lane was correct in their listing, but the photos you and I found don't seem to lineup with Tran's book. Then again, these catalog reprints could have been in error due to last minute production changes. Who knows for certain. I can't tell if my friends clock is an Adamantine case or not. It could be the celluloid marble trim has blackened with age or is extremely dirty. I haven't seen the clock firsthand; I'm just going by the photos sent to me.

It looks like you have the Adamantine No.102 circa 1896'ish or a variant of it.

I could use a hand identifying a ST Adamantine as well. Needs cleaning yet, soon to start. It has "NO 724" stamped on the bottom.

thanks. Bill

It's made after 1902. 1906-1908 would be close. The bell was gone by 1910.
