Hi, I have been given a clock by a relative and don't know anything about it. Would really appreciate any information as to it's history and what type of clock it is, thanks so much.

    Welcome to the board.

You have a nice French mantel clock. The movement is unsigned (the initials EB may be those of the finisseur or the wholesaler). I suppose it dates to around 1880.

It is very dirty but would look very fine if the case were cleaned and polished and the dial cleaned and the XII re-touched.

If you are going to run it, it would be wise to have the movement cleaned and oiled by a clock repairer. (I am presuming you have the pendulum, although it is not shown in the photos).

Then you will have a very nice family heirloom to enjoy.

Hi, thanks very much for your help! I didn't realise it was so old, yes it definitely needs attention. Thanks again!
