Are all 16S 23J Bunn Specials hunting case model 8? Or I could ask it this way: are there any model 9's that are hunters? If I had that great research book by Michael Chamelin, I would already know the answer..

Bunn Special 16 size hunting case are Model 8 or Model 12.

All variants but one are Model 8, the single variant being the exception is the 300 hunting case 23 jewel examples made with jeweled Motor Barrels which are Model 12. The 16 size Model 12 is in fact defined as being hunting case with jeweled Motor Barrel, and these 300 watches were the only Illinois product ever made in this Model.

p.s. Wish I still had extra copies of Mike's book but they are becoming hard to find!

Thanks Fred...I bought one today but it's not a Model 12 so it must be a model 8 with serial #2860292...when I looked up the serial # in the database most of us use online, it says it's a model 9...that didn't seem right

that is a model 9 with a conversion dial on it... note in your dial image where the pendant and second bit are 180 degrees apart

IF a model 8 or 12, winding stem at 3 o'clock and seconds bit 90 degrees down .... database and CD lookup for model 9 is correct.

edit to add.. also on open face looking down with pendant towards you.... ratchet wheel will be on RIGHT for open face movement, and on LEFT for Hunter movement.... 44.120b.jpg
