1957 23j automatic marked waterproof and all other proofs. Nice looking and condition came with original box. Carefully pulled the pins to separate case halves so probably ruined the seals that were marginally effective I suppose anyway. Maybe scarce? artbissell

Scarce? I don't really know. But there were at least two! Yours, and the one I have in my menagerie of "parts" watches and (possible) future projects.

Mine is marked 1951, and upon inspection, the style is very similar, but not water resistant (or waterproof). Yours is dated 1957. It was around this time (or perhaps a bit earlier) when the term waterproof was legislated out of existence in North America. But not necessarily internationally. I wonder if yours was intended for a market where the term was still legal! The term was replaced with waterresistantcirca 1955.

Doug you certainly make things interesting for us superficial collectors. Much appreciated. I have a little respect for you truly N. Americans. My favorite girl friend is older than my 84 and certainly a fine healthy person born and raised there. Married her Texas oil man husband in Calgary who ignored her efforts to discourage cigars and whiskey. art

There are 3 known now, I have one also. Date code L7, patent pending, case serial C207838, also marked waterproof.

    It was never water proof.
If it had seals, they don't last this long anyway.
None of the square or rectangular watches were ever as water resistant as round cased watches.
You are wasting your energy worrying about that
True though, such watches don't have seals still being manufactured for them.
