This little fellow I first purchased in about 1978. I sold it to a fellow collector who kept it all these years. He decided to downsize last month a sold off all his clocks to an Indianapolis clock dealer whom I have known since he started collecting and dealing. So, I bought it back for about what I sold it for 40+ years ago. While it is not a remarkable clock in many respects, what is remarkable is its state of preservation. I think the finish is original, never refinished, never deeply cleaned, never subjected to Go-Jo, etc. Dial is excellent as is the label, hands, weights, and so forth. Even has original dust on it I am sure.

The only uncertainty from my perspective is the tablet. It is proper for the period, it is what was in the clock when I bought it the first time. It looks right but almost too good.

If the case is so well preserved, and the dial, I would think the tablet might be original.

back side of glass, old, but strange in that it has nothing written on it, it looks different from other examples I own, the edges of the glass are more chipped than cut as normal, and it is retained by 2 wood strips vs the more common 4 strips

Yeah, I came home with eight clocks picked up there. Three were deliveries but five were of interest and available so I bought them. A couple of clocks for research, neither are wonderful, but 3 of the new finds are pretty decent and will join the collection.

Jim, I have no doubt that the tablet is original to the clock. I have several other examples with similar "cheap and quick" wooden works style tablets, as well as early Fenn ones. One of the examples has virtually the identical same scene with slight differences to the building. I will only include one example here (the one that's almost identical). I will email you the other 18 or so images.
