• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

I've done a fair amount of googling but cant really find anything much on this maker, I wondered if anyone knew of him? Best I've found is a couple of entries for a Thomas Barnard but am not sure if I've found the right one. And maybe he just wasn't that prolific!

I picked it up at an antique fair and its missing its back dust cover although has the dial and glass, such a shame, but then thats why it cost me so little. I was drawn to it because of the beautiful piercing work on the back. Is it possible to get a back cover to fit or is that a vain hope lol? It ticks away like a champ but I'm sure would need a proper service before being used

Any information would be lovely :)

Hi Sally,

This has a cap, but it's only a rim; nothing's missing, as there aren't any fixing studs for a full cap. Looks like 1820s or 30s for date.

Regards,

Graham

Oh, shows how little I know lol. But surely the dust and dirt would get in if it was carried about in a pocket  Thanks for the date information

I like the extra engraving all around the plate, that's a nice feature and I like the moon hands. (don't know if original but they are a pair)

As you can see dust does indeed get inside the movement :)

He he yeah its a grubby little thing. I can see why you'd want to keep all that engraving and piercing visible though, so much work!

Hi Sally,

The case would stop most of the dirt, but a full cap still had various gaps, even a very well fitted one. Rims like this are certainly less common than the full caps. I expect most of the fluff arrived after the case was scrapped.

Regards,

Graham
