Hi Johnnytoyoda:

Welcome to the NAWCC Message Board!

You have a nice watch there!

You might try looking in some of the websites listed in the Reference section of the Longines Encyclopedia article.

Good luck,

According to serial number decoder; This watch was made in 1911.

Thanks for the link, roughbarked. I hadn't known about it.

Longines will mail you information from its archive about a watch. Unlike, Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin, which charge $100-200 for such an extract, Longines doesn't charge, at least it wasn't charging when I used this service a few years ago. See Help Identifying a Longines.

Thank you for all the information

yes … funny thing is I had found those newspapers as well and another local one… turns out the Mix family is from Chatham NY which is the same town as where my father in laws family was from. There were some articles about the two family’s. They knew each other’s families.
The James Mix sr started the buisness … then james mix jr took it over until his death 1907. From there I do not know … seems it could have went until the depression or even stopped during WWI as I could only find till 1917. I can imagine getting swiss movements during WWI would be hard. They were also advertising in the Chatham newspaper from that time…that is where I found those newspapers online as well.

thanks again all for the help and age

the watch was gifted to us by my in-laws after my wife’s aunts passing. My father in law only knows it as his fathers watch however the age must bring it to his fathers father watch. I had a feeling it could have been earlier than his fathers.

again thank you all for your input

The Longines Cal 13.98 was used in Ladies' watches,
(as this one?) also mens' trench watches, in WWI, etc.
The decoration and layout of *this* movement does look
'early'... mfg'd 1911, retailed a bit later, seems right..

Btw, the James Mix of Albany story began in 1790 (silversmith, then jeweler). They were still going in 1959.
