Hello All, Greetings and Salutations.. I have a question regarding a MASTERCRAFTERS Swinging Girl electric clock. Are there motors available for these clocks? I see that Merritt's and Timesavers have some electric motors, but I'm not sure about those ..There's the Hansen motors...I'm thinking NO and there's the replacement for Telechron 'B' motors. I think that might be more for the mechanical movements with electric motors...? Yes? No? I repaired the customers GF clock and as usual walked out with another clock 'that's been in the family for as long as they can remember' So I said I'd give it a look see. I feel or hear no sign of life in this clock. I have power to the light bulb, that's it.. Anybody have a helpful hint, tip or suggestion?

Best,
Bob

Bob,
That looks like a Sessions motor in that clock. There were many different styles and I don't now of any source for replacements other than looking for a donor clock. Does the flywheel spin easily? Do you detect any wobble? You might start by punching out the flywheel from the shaft and clean/lubricate the internal bushing assembly and hope the problem was just dried up lubricant/dirt. You might have to re-bush or replace the internal motor bushings if the shaft wobbles or has lateral play.

Is it the style where the motor is removable from the movement or part of the movement? If the motor runs separated from the movement that would indicate a problem with the movement itself. Also check for continuity at the leads going to the motor's coil.

I have a few Sessions motors but they are the common style with 3 tab bayonet mount and worm drive gear. I would have to test them.

There were a gazillion different clock motors and styles/configurations. It's pretty challenging to source most of them these days.

Scroll down to see Sessions:

Dave,
Thanks for the comeback. I have to admit I am a babe in the woods with these electric clocks. I was going to attempt disassembly, but then thought of the donor clock route...I am gonna let the owner decide which way to go..
I think with a donor I would be able to swap the complete assy from 1 clock to the other.
Part of me though wants to try the repair route first...Do I lose anything by trying?
I lose the chance to possibly fix something and learn something if I DON'T try......

WOW!! Certainly were a GAZILLION motors out there!!
Dave, again and thanks for the feedback...I think I will try to follow what your saying to do and attempt a repair first...TRY TO FOLLOW being the operative phrase....:?|

Best,
Bob.

Dave...What is the way to 'punch out' the shaft from the flywheel on this motor. Oh, by the way the motor does detach from the movement via 3 bayonet tabs.

Dave ...I successfully removed the flywheel and shaft and de-gunked all the solidified lubricant, polished the shaft, lubricated and reassembled the unit. AND VOILA' !!! Success! I am sure glad I tried. It gave me quite a sense of accomplishment...AND an EZ fix I must say!! Thanks for the advice and pointers.

Best,
Bob
