    Hi Ray,

Bet you don't have a problem like our nearest local post box, there's a notice stuck to the front of it: 'Please don't post any letters here, birds nesting inside'!

    Regards,

    Graham

I'm betting the note was not placed there by the post office ;)

There was a similar notice on a post box near me. It was put on by the postman who was responsible for emptying the box. As the man has to scan the barcode on the inside of the box whenever he empties it, he had to tell his supervisor that he would rather not empty it while the bird was nesting and he got permission but was asked to look inside very carefully from time to time, just in case someone had ignored the notice and posted a letter.

This happens relatively often in country districts - not sure if it would be quite the same in a city.

You're right - in the city there is far better accommodation provided for nesting birds in the form of the bird-boxes we all put up in our gardens for the purpose :)

    Hi Martin,

Well, the notice has been taken off the post box now, so I assume that the birds have no further use for it. We may not have too many bird-boxes, but there are plenty of hedgerows, trees and redundant farm buildings. A cast iron post box was a pretty good choice for the birds, good protection from rats, squirrels and the local pair of sparrow hawks.

    Regards,

    Graham
