Atmos Regulating Clamp Question

I am in the process of tackling my first Atmos Clock. It has had a previous suspension spring replacement, which did not work.
Could someone please assist me. The regulating clamp is pinched at the tip. Should this(pinch) be a friction fit on to the suspension? At the moment is slides fairly easily along the length..

Any response would be appreciated.

It is a very light friction fit, as the suspension spring must be able to slide in the clamp when the lever is rotated to adjust for slowing or speeding the Atmos. You will find, however, that you cannot adjust the regulator without breaking it (my experience) to use it as you found it unless it either won't accept the suspension spring or virtually fails to hold it.
