I have always loved the Astro regulators, I however will probably never be able to afford one. I decided to construct my own. From conception to ticking clock I have about 30 hours into it. I still have to build the case, but all the hard work is done. I also liked the look of the linear gear arrangement, it took a bit of doing, but I made it work. My donor for this project was a American Hamburg grandfather movement. I chose it because of the heavy cut nice gears. I have not altered anything that I cannot put back, or replace. On the traditional astro's they have three dial faces, on mine I could not work that in because my escape wheel turns counter clockwise. So I have a minute hand, and a separate hour hand. The only thing besides the gears I did not construct was the pendulum bob. I did have plans for such a bob, but I found this one pre-made and almost to my specs.
