Hi, Would a Hamilton size 12 movement fit in a any size 12 case. The problem is I have a 12size Burlington movement 21jewel temp&adj that is not working but the case is beautiful and I don't want to waste the case and I don't think fixing the movement would be cost effective.the balance wheel and spring have come off the balance cock and before that it was running slow. Thanks Randy

A Burlington case belongs with a Burlington movement from the same period. Yes, it may fit other movements of the same size, but it would not be right. There are more movements than there are cases, so it should not be that hard to find another 12 size Burlington.

It really does not sound as though your watch is in that bad of shape. Also chances are that any movement you purchase will have issues. Otherwise the person would be selling it in a case for more money.

RAndy, To expand on what Don said--Burlington watches came with a Burlington Hallmarked case. These are specific to Burlington, and the Burlington movement should stay with it.

A 12S hamilton may or may not fit into a standard 12S case. This depend upon what grade it is. I do know that the grade 910 and 914 were factory cased and have a special case size.

Some other 12 Size that will not fit a standard size case are Keystone Howard, Southbend, Illinois extra thin model, Hampden thin model, and certain Waltham Colonial series watches.

Many will fit, but there are also many that will not fit.

Randy, You got some good responses to your sz 12 question. I would like to share my experiences. Size 12 movements have given me a lot of trouble fitting to a case. I had two Hampden movements stamped with the same grade number and the cases would not interchange.

Hi all,

Add: that the 12s measurement across the dial of the mov't does not include allowances for thicknesses, setting mechanisms, and other features.

I appreciate all the responses. The reason I ask is that my burlington movement 21jewel temp&adj is in a salesman sample case and I know that these were mail order watches so there were be no need for this type of case.I guess I will have to find someone to fix it,The balance wheel and spring have come off the balance cock.
