Hello all,

I am looking for information or pictures from someone that has an Ansonia New York hanging model clock. I purchased a shell about a year ago and am just now getting around to putting it all back together. Just wondering which movement I need to be on the lookout for. I have found a dial pan, hands, and an original pendulum, just need the movement now.

Thanks,
Josh

Here’s a link to a photo of an ansonia New York model clock… Is this what you have?

Antique Ansonia Clocks

There is a link on the page to an index of all ansonia clocks… I think yours might say ansonia New York on the dial because the company was located in New York.

As always, photos, photos, photos, photos… the best chance to getting informed the answers.

Bruce,

The clock I have is an actual wall model. It is on page 170 of Tran's book. I will try to post a picture of the page. I am just trying to figure out what movement I need to put in it.

So it's time and strike? I'm working on an Ansonia wall clock now that is time only.

Bruce,

Unfortunately no. The Ansonia book has very little info on movements. I was hoping it would, as I have the ST books also, and they have great info on the movements. I know that some of the movements are stamped with a number, that is supposed to be the distance in inches from a point on the movement to the pendulum, I just don't know what those points are. If I knew that, I could hopefully locate a movement fairly easily.

Given the 1874 date for the New York as shown in Tran, that would place it as a product of the Ansonia Brass and Copper (ABC) Co. I wonder whether the correct, basic movement might be essentially the one shown for the Drop Extra Calendar on page 71, fig. 127, minus the calendar attachments, of course. The Drop Extra Calendar is the same height as the New York, and it was made for most part by the ABC Co. (1869-77), though some were also offered for a time by the Ansonia Clock Co. (in fact, one is shown from the 1883 catalogue).
