I have recently obtained this Ansonia clock, iron cased, which I was told was the Savoy model. However, I don't think it is, although it seems to be similar.

Could anyone with access to the Ansonia reference books help me to identify this model? (I believe it would originally have been black - the white paint seems to have been done later)

Many thanks for any information.

JTD

PS I have just been told that the cream/white paint may be original?

Tran Duy Ly's Ansonia book shows that as the Rouen from 1894. It is black in the book but the top of the page lists three of the models on that page that can be finished in colors instead of black. There are also two other models on the page that are pictured as white so maybe your white is original.

Hello JTD.

Looks to be the "Rouen", found on page 293 of Tran Duy Ly's Ansonia Clocks and Watches. The image is from an 1894 catalogue.

The image shows a black model but that same page also shows black and white models of the same clock for two others, "Orleans" and "Seine". Seems pretty likely that you have the white model of the "Rouen".

Beaten by bpd. Have to learn to type faster.

Thanks bpd and Jim for your speedy replies.

I am now sure the model I have is the Rouen. As for the finish, I have looked very carefully and I am beginning to think that it was originally white. The portions under the brass trim are really smooth and hard, like stove-enamelling, and the crackle that has taken in other places is not very typical of paint. (The front doesn''t look too bad, at least from a distance, but the top is awful).

Thanks again, both, for your help - much appreciated.
