Ansonia main springs.

I recently order two main springs for a Ansonia Capitol. I received the springs and the hole is too small to fit over the corner posts. I am thinking of using a large punch and slip the hole end over the punch and lightly tap it until the hole enlarges to fit over the post. Am I ruining the spring? Is their another way to do this.

Thanks,
Randy

If I am reading this right. You should be fine. Why don't you drive a piece of round stock just over the size of the post. Most punches are tapered.

There should be enough slack between the round part and the rivets to allow you to stretch the hole quite a bit. Tapered punch into both ends should do it.

I should have typed that my concern was the rivets. If he doesn't crack them loose he should be fine.

Hi
He could clamp that part in a vise or maybe
a vise grip plier to keep from stressing the rivet.
