Hello,
I recently purchased a Ansonia Capitol spring wound time only. Both springs were broken. What I came up with for the old springs is 7/16" x .015 x 96". My question is will a 1/2" x .015 x 96" work? Or would a 7/16" x .014 x 72" work better. Would the last spring run for 8 days? Also would anyone have any of the finials? Missing the top center and bottom left-rightk- and center.

Thanks,
Randy

If the springs main wheel will allow for the 1/2", I'd do that. The shorter spring will run less time.

Jewels, it provides more power than a single spring, as both springs drive the same large lantern pinion. IBM (and earlier Seth Thomas) used this arrangement to drive time recorders. Also ST # 10 movements used in ships clocks used dual springs.

Some, such as Seth Thomas's model 86 movements, run longer (15 or 30 days, depending on the model). These often drive heavy pendulums, requiring the power of two springs.

Randy, our mainspring sticky lists these springs as 3/8 x . 017 x 96", which is Timesavers part # 16866.
Hope this helps.
