What is the best way to let down the mainspring on one of these clocks? Would appreciate any advice.

Make a special let down tool: Take a 4 inch piece of broomstick. Center drill with a drill bit slightly larger than the diameter of the key rod. Drill about an inch deep. Cut a slit across the hole, just a bit wider than the handle of the key and a bit deeper than the handle is deep. You want to get a section of the key rod to fit into the center hole. Push the tool on the key with the handle in the slit, hold it and release the click to let down the spring.
