Does anyone have any insight into the watch pictured? I realize the pics could be better but I didn't photograph the watch, and don't really have good access to it at this time. It is a friend's who emailed me these pics.
Anyway, it is as pictured and housed in an 18K lightly enamelled case, the cuvette being marked with a notation that states that Alfred Gerard holds the hand-setting patent, along with the date (1871, I think). It is accompanied by the card pictured, although the s/no's are a few hundred apart from the card to the watch in question.
The watch and case bear the same s/no's.
I'll try to get more, better photos.
I did see a previous post, but was hoping maybe some more info is out there at this time. Thanks. George 80826.jpg 80827.jpg

Pritchard has a long listing about Charles Edouard Jacot (1817-1897) and describes him as a "prolific inventor", and he was a highly reputed watchmaker. However she gives no information on Alfred Gerard. This leads me to believe that the name of Jacot was acquired by Gerard after Jacot ceased his watchmaking activities, and perhaps Gerard actually continued to make "Jacot" watches.

The certificate you have is obvuiously unrelated to the watch, but it does "suggest" that Gererad were indeed making watches. However the wording of the certificate is rather strange, and it may be no more than a piece of marketing hype designed to make a buyer believe he was buying a Jacot watch when in fact it was simply bought in by Gerard. I certainly doubt that Jacot ever signed the certificate.

As far as I can see, the movement looks pretty good.

Hi Marty
Here's another of those Charles E. Jacot certificates.
The signature is part of the printing process while the serial number has actually been penned in. You can feel the print as it's all somehow embossed on the glossy paper.
The movement in this thread is virtually the same as the 2nd movement in pictured in my post to thread
https://mb.nawcc.org/showthread.php?t=56151
which I said looked to me to be like a Chas. Jacot movement. Interesting that this poster has put the two names together too. 86741.jpg

The OP said that the watch was "accompanied" by the certificate, although he knows the certificate is for a watch with a different serial number. But I assume he deduced the watch was a Jacot simply because the certificate came with it. And it's clear the certificate is a genuine Gerard/Jacot certificate.

It's a strange coincidence that I have a Jurgensen with the "wrong" certificate. Both items are absolutely genuine, it's just that they don't go together :D I shall spend the rest of my life searching for the watch to which the certificate actually belongs. Fortunately it has a very easy serial number to remember - 13579.

Marty,
To add to your frustration, we know that Jurgensen bought a lot of stuff from Audemars and I have a very long run (as usual discontinuous) of 13+++ numbers from 13000 to 13677 - but not that one...
Have a nice day.

It's 13857 ... and I have always believed it is an Audemars movement.

I love posting pictures :D

Forgive the haze in the picture - the watch has an exhibition back. 87078.jpg
