Hi. Just bought this nice Agassiz pocket watch a few weeks ago. AFAIK its a private label ( J. kendall Smith. Newark, New Jersey) for USA market. The movement its lever set with a Wilmot regulator and runs so strong and keept a great time. I saw another agassiz watches with the same dial, but I think its recased. I found a poor information about the brand (catalogues, year data base, movements, etc...)

The serial number 42739 its circa 1880 or 1890?
How many jewells have this momement? 17?
what was the appreciation of the brand by the public in this age? Normally I saw cased in a gold cases...

Thank you so much. Here some pictures. Hope you like.

This is a good watch. Jewel count is 16 or 17 jewels. Center jewel is in a raised gold chaton.

The double sunk dial is unusual for a Swiss watch but typical of an American. The lever setting suggests this may have been intended for railroad service.

Agassiz was regarded as a prestige brand and its distributor, Wittnauer, was a major New York operation with a very large service operation.
