• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

Tony Mercer's book on Chronometer Maker's of the World, shows an Edward Massey & Family at many addresses, including the 89 Strand, right down the street from the more familiar 84 Strand. Alan Treherne published an article in the AHS on the Massey family.

Based on what I read, ,the clock is very late 1800's probably.1890ish or later. He was the eldest son of Edward.

I was not sure whether the signature is not just a retailer.

Because the movement itself looks to me earlier than late 1800s, looking at the form of the plates, of the pillars and various other details.

An interesting and unusual four glass clock. Britten has him at 89 The Strand and 40 Bridge St. Lambeth 1810-35.

I am wondering about the writing on the dial. It just doesn't look 'right' to my eye, but perhaps I am wrong.

It is an unusual clock - the A frame style of the movement reminds me of that used in dial clocks, and as JTD says, there is something about the dial that doesn't look quite "right", but I can't think what it is. And the single finial on the top centre doesn't look usual either.

I think too unusual.

I can't see any other evidence as the pendulum is in the way but there is a threaded hole that I think was a hold fast for a verge movement.

I think the case is far more recent than the movement, and I just don't think the dial is right.
