• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

Please also look at my latest video to see if there is something else I should do. The strike will not release unless I help it. In the video I push down on the chime shutoff to release it. Thank you.
Is the movement completely assembled?
The problem may be with the chime correction part of the movement (integral pieces not installed).
Herschede movements are kind of quirky and did not operate within normal bounds.
Your solution should be found in Conover's writings on that movement.
Have you read and studied the chime/strike sequence with those writings?
If ever I am faced with a problem that I evidently cannot solve, (This is post number 51 on the subject) I will hit the books or send the movement to someone more qualified.
Is this your clock or are you learning on someone else's clock?
Best,
Dick

I'm late to the party, here, but for what it's worth I'll return to the lost power issue for a moment.
When I reassemble a movement for the first time after making pivot and bushing repairs., I leave off all external levers, pin drums, etc. and spin the internal wheel trains, dry, with the gentlest pressure on spring barrels or cable drums. I spin both ways and watch all the pivot ends for lateral movement, and I listen. The slightest sign of resistance indicates a bent pivot or tight bushing. A moving pivot end or chatter indicates a too-loose bushing. Any of these indications causes me to separate the plates and fix the offending pivot or bushing. They only get harder (and more annoying) to find and fix after external loads and oil are added.
I find this is an especially essential procedure for power-hungry Herschede movements, whether they be for tall clocks or mantel clocks.

In the last video it is clear that the strike train is not releasing after the warn. Look at the position of the locking pin on the wheel in that train. That pin is not being released by the tab on the lever?

Just some final adjustments needed on the chime roll, hopefully the self correcting lever takes care of it. JB Weld still holding the chime pallet on. Chime tubes seem to need tuning but I will wait until I get things synced up correctly.
Thanks everyone for your inputs and ideas they are always very helpful.
