/ Choose a punch that will accomodate the pinion. Place the punch in your staking tool and drop the cannon pinion into place, drive wheel on top. Use a center punch to CAREFULLY press down on the bottom tip of the cannon pinion and carefully remove the drive wheel from the cannon pinion.

/Choose a FLAT faced punch for your staking tool and put it in position, flat end up.

/ Choose a round faced punch with about a 3 mm round face and place it, round face toward the flat face of the punch in your staking tool.

/ Place the drive wheel, centered, onto the flat face of the bottom punch.

/ Lower the round faced punch down to contact the drive wheel. Twirl the punch to make certain it is centered on the drive wheel.

/ One VERY LIGHT TAP with a riveting hammer on the top punch.

/ Choose a well fitting hole punch that you can place the pinion into, the shoulder for the drive wheel topside. Place it in your staking tool, hole end up.

/ Choose a hole punch that is a GOOD FIT for the shoulder where the drive wheel fits. Put it into your staking tool, hole side down.

/ With the cannon pinion in the bottom punch, place the drive wheel over the shoulder of the cannon pinion where it fits, CENTERED WELL.

Lowered the second punch down to contact the drive wheel. Check the drive wheel again to be sure it is centered, and press it on.

Be sure to peg the pinion and glass brush the post where it sits!
