So, I woke up this morning on a mission to write a story with a title something like; "The Omega Moon Swatch is the Biggest POS in the World." You see, yesterday a watch nerd friend called me and said he had managed to buy two of the "Mission on Earth" versions at the Swatch store in NYC, and wanted to know if I wanted one at cost. I don't know why but I have actually stopped earlier this year at the Swatch shops in Edinburgh, NYC and San Diego hoping to find one with no luck so I said "sure."

Last night I took it out of the box and set it. It was cheap and light feeling and there was no way it would fit on my not huge but big wrist on its original branded strap. I put it back in the box and though to my self, "what a joke…glad it was only $250."

This morning I woke up and took the pictures for my POS story. Then, just for kicks, I dug through my stockpile of straps and found a black NATO in 20mm so I could try to wear it. I settled on black so that if I decided to wear it out in public it would attract the least possible amount of attention.

I put the watch on my wrist, tightened up the NATO and, surprise, surprise, it felt good on. I usually like watches with some weight but this cheap, light, plastic POS felt good. I have now had it on my wrist for a couple of hours and it still feels good.

This is frustrating. I can't write the story with the title I originally envisioned. I sort of like this little POS. I guess I will wear it for a couple of days and see what I come to think. I just hope I won't run into any of my purist watch nerd friends with it on my wrist. I may grow to like it but I doubt I will ever be able to get over the shame of it. We will see.

That reminds me of when the late Huell Howser came to the LA Regional in Pasadena for one of his traveling shows. I think he was chatting with Lance Thomas when Lance asked Huell what kind of watch he was wearing. I don't remember the type, but Lance's reaction was as if it was a Timex, or some other type of inexpensive quartz. He looked at Huell, on camera, practically plugging his nose, and said, "You ought to be ashamed of yourself". Huell was, of course, a good sport about it. Maybe he was wearing an Omega Moon Swatch? :chuckling:

FWIW, I really don't mind the looks of that Swatch. If it feels good, wear it. Cheers.

I don't mind the looks of them, but I'm also not a fan of plastic watches for certain reasons...

Although, part of me thinks it would be pretty fun to torture my wife with a watch called "Mission to Uranus"...

Moon Swatch.

... then don't say anything at all.

Can't do that...goes against my nature. :banghead:

Lance has never been known to hold back.

Takes a lickin' and keeps on chippin'.

Kidding aside, that would leave a bad impression on someone who just spent $250 on an Omega branded watch. I guess Mr. Cote had better wear his more gently than you did, Appa69 . So, how exactly did you manage to break the case that way. It doesn't look like it's a movable/replaceable bezel, right?

Not my watch, just happened to come across that particular picture soon after posting and figured it had to be a sign...

I know this might sound snotty but that is why I might wear the plastic $250 watch. I remember the time I wore an expensive vintage Heuer chrono on a plane to Zurich for a meeting. I went into the cramped heat to take a leak and banged my watch against the sink as I reached for the flush button. As the toilet flushed I saw the bezel of my watch in the hurricane of blue water swirling down the drain. This cost me a lot more than 250 and taught me a lesson.
