Here I was aked to post the free version of my software timing machine.
I am happy to attach it below as a zip file, including a pdf that describes all features of the full version, too.

Note: big zip-files are not possible here. So I changed it to ".txt". After download of the attached file, please change its ending back from ".txt" to ".zip"!

To really use the program, you will need a suitable microphone. Those of old paperstrip TMs are an excellent choice. But also a simple piezo disc will work, if a preamp is added. Below I show a most simple circuit (with adapted passband) that you can connect to your PC / laptop:

    piezo_amp_e.jpg

    Enjoy!

    History:
When the PC TMs appeared, I had a closer look on them to see if they are useful for the watchmaker's workshop. The results were quite sobering. Function not satisfactory, results not in real time, no continuous operation but stop after one measurement, chaotic design, etc. I found this can be done better, and started my own development.

I wanted: All features of professional TMs and more, reliable results even from difficult signals, simple design, easy handling.

For years now the full version runs on a laptop in my workshop. First as a tool for examinating difficult and hidden errors only, I use it daily meanwhile.

I made the files available for download here:

    Link (right-click file, "Herunterladen")

Maybe it is easier that way.

So long as it isn't in violation with forum rules (might count as marketing or linking an active listing) I think we would all be interested to know that, Frank.

Probably best to stick with PM's when discussing pricing and purchasing the paid version. We're skating very close to the edge here on the 'no selling' rule.

    Hi,

power for the built-in preamp comes from the mic input. Nearly all (PC, laptop, tablet, smartphone) have an internal circuit that provides DC for this.

Thank you, I am going to build one to use with my Ipad/iPhone it should also work for android. Apple ear bud Microphones have a built in preamp so any piezo/condenser microphone needs a preamp so I am hoping your circuit works.

I wll check this, as some manufacturer's mics have a "mute" function when DC is detected.

If not, it will work even directly connected.

    Hello,

I looked up my files, your microphone can be connected directly. Only issue is different plugs.

    Hi,
it will work, but is not the best equivalent. AFAIK the 2N3904 is more common in USA than bc... types.

After assembly it would not work I will order the correct pare online The Pre-Amp pickup I received with PCTM Pro 2.1.19 works fine on my PC as it has a Pre-Amp built in but I would like to have a good Pre-Amp pickup for my IPad/IPhone it needs a Pre-Amp to work properly.

Ordered the part BC549B since there are none in Albuquerque but it came in a 100 pack for under 5$ so I will have a few left over. I don't want to experiment with the PCTM PRO pickup I don't want to take a chance on shorting out its pre-amp
