Have a GB movement with wrong pendulum (I think it maybe from a French style clock). Will run for short time than the pendulum train gets the shivers. Approximately correct length. Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks
and possibly leader. Anyone with feedback?
Needs the right pendulum to run properly. P18 = 18 centimeters length pendulum.
General rule is if you don't know when the clock was last serviced, it needs to be serviced to run.
Clock movements get worn out with age and the exact points of wear are not necessarily consistent.
Worn bushings must be replaced, pivots must be polished, and all chime/strike levers must be in perfect synchronization.
To name just a few things that are required for a complete servicing.
Cleaning and oiling alone won't do anything to solve wear.
A clean movement with wear won't run.
If you are still looking to find or make a suitable case this would be advised before doing the movement over.
Here is a typical style of case that would house a movement like yours:
The crutch is supposed to be on the leader, not the pendulum rod. The leader is too short. The pendulum rod itself is going through the crutch fork. You must find a leader that extends below below the crutch fork and then use a shorter pendulum. The total length from the suspension to the bottom of the pendulum bob should be about 18 cm.
