I bought the two pieces below for different reasons. The first just as a document of the later watches by Robert Roskell before his retirement in 1843. This movement would have been made c1841-2, and on appearance looks like a top quality three-quarter plate. Fact is it´s a Massey three, and one of the smallést I have ever seen. No. 50785
The other is a very nice movement in full working order, is a so-called Liverpool runner, with a Single Table Roller escapement, and I would say the top of the range for Roskell at this time c1844. (See Roskell file for these numbers) It also looks as if it could have been cased in America-looking at the style of the hands. The watch signed on the dial with the name Robt. Roscoe (not in Loomes) and I think it is one of those odd watches like L. Leksor he sometimes used or Roscell. Shame the scrappers got to it first. Allan

Allan I am confused by the second watch as the movement is also signed Roscoe. Why is this Roskell and not Robert Roscoe ...

Hi, John-thank you for that, first time I have seen this census-I will have to take it out of the Roskell file. (Though with that nember I still think the firm Roskell made it and signed it up for Roscoe). Allan
