992B Serial No. C002

I did my best to research whether the watch I was purchasing was legitimate. It appears I've acquired the Hamilton 992B #C002. When I receive the watch I'll post pictures so as to ascertain its authenticity; I've searched this forum and found no mention of this serial number. I'm curious if anyone has heard anything about this particular watch while I wait for its delivery. I am very focused on ensuring I've acquired the genuine article. Has anyone heard anything about this particular example?

As with most very collectible watches this example has been discussed within the watch community.

It belongs to my friend Adam in Knoxville, Tn. and I have discussed the Origin & value with him and also Shared this information With several Collectors on this board.

The consensus was the watch is a great example,but we decided that the asking price was too much. You bought it at a reduced price from what was originally asked for it.

Thank you! It’s heartening to hear that you’re familiar with this watch. Was the discussion in a thread on this board? If so, I’d love the link. If it was a private conversation, no worries. This price seemed reasonable enough to me as I’m originally from eastern Pennsylvania (moved to California a decade ago) and I’m grateful for being able to afford a piece of history from near my home. I’d love to learn anything I can about this watch’s history.

The Hamilton Ledgers show C002 being Finished on 6-18-1941 and Sold on 8-18-1941 to Customer 26-85136.

There were many finished and sold before this watch was, so Hamilton did not have any order of finish by serial number.

We do not know who the numbers represent as of now. You can access this info from the Library if you are a member.

Thank you! I checked those ledgers as well and am not bothered that other 992Bs were finished and sold prior to this one; it’s just a thrill having one with such a low serial number in my collection.

Interesting to know more about C007, as i have not listed it ...

The Hamilton Factory Ledgers show that serial Numbers C006-C010 were the 1st sent to finishing on 6-24-1940.

The 1st sold were C007 ,C008, C010 on 7-3-1940.

So if you wanted bragging rights to the 1st 992B sold by Hamilton it would be C007,C008, C010

Then on 8-1-1940, C036, C064 were sold and a week later on 8-8-1940, C005,C006, C009 were sold.

The only one i know of put away was c 001, and it went into the archive vault. Where it resided along with other special watches.

First of all, welcome to the NAWCC Forums JJL1981. Second, congratulations on the purchase of C002. These early 992B’s represent the beginning of what is arguably one of the most iconic American railroad watches.
