I picked up this Wm L Gilbert today and was hoping to get some information if possible. From what I gather, the use of Wm L Gilbert on the label would put it somewhere around 1860. I was also hoping that someone could help me identify the image in the tablet and if it's best to just leave it alone even though it's flaking. It's fairly small and measures only 14 1/2 inches to the top of the peak. Amazingly, it's running strong and accurate. Any help is much appreciated, thanks.

    Hi Don,

I wish I could tell you more, but I'm still learning, especially when it comes to the historical aspects. I'm much better with the technical stuff.

That's a nice looking little steeple clock.

Here are a couple of links on how to treat the glass:

It seems to be a popular topic.

Thank you very much for the links Tom, very helpful and yes, it does seem to be a popular topic. For some reason I don't seem to be able to search very well on this site, need more practice, I'll keep trying.

As a tip, if you want to search for a phrase, you have to include it in quotes.

Reverse glass, will return all matches for reverse and glass, so you get a lot of non-desirable results with just one term.

"Reverse glass," will return only matches for the phrase.
