I have a number of 218s which aren't humming. How can I determine if the coils or if the transistor are at fault?

It is easy to test the "CELL COIL" (the coil closest to the battery)

Simple volt Ohm meter and test for resistance. It will either test or

there won't be any reading, no reading, bad coil.

Cell coil good? Must be component coil bad.

Mr Bill - How do I know its not the transistor circuit instead of the coil?

This will only tell you where the problem lies in which coil assembly.

? R U repairing the transistor units? you could test from the component coil lead to where the very fine wire from the coil attaches.

Been so long since I've had an accutron apart not sure if you can find a test point from the lead to where the coil wire attached to the rest of the component coil.
