I picked this up today, it runs and keeps time. But this one needs some work. It looks like it will need new hands, the minute and hour hand are rusty and it looks like the second hand is broke. It seems to run good but needs taken apart and cleaned. I also would like to put it in its proper case, which i am not sure what that would be. So what would this type of service cost, and is this watch worth the effort. I already have 55.00 in it.

You have an 18 size Veritas(hunting movement)from 1903 with only 4000 of them produced.
Yours is 569/4000. Adjusted to 5 positions
    These are very collectable watches.

Edit.....Also, this would have been approved for RR service at that time.

Thankyou Rob I thought it was a decent watch even though it was in bad shape.

I can only give you my opinion... Its worth it. It deserves a nice case. Really pretty movement. Hands shouldn't too hard to find.

I think it's a fun project! That's a nice high quality movement from Elgin that you got for a great price.

It's my experience that the 18s Roman double sunk dials are not at common as the Arabic at this time, so that's a nice touch. I have one that's also on a hunter movement from around the same date.

Nickel plates in an old glass back, kinda like rain on a tin roof, while in a recliner.

As has been said, this is a pretty nice watch. Take your time with it. A good watchmaker may be able to save and re-finish the hour and minute hands. Finding a second hand will not be too difficult. Also, you will eventually be able to find a nice gold filled hunting case. Again, take your time. The watch is not rare or even very scarce but it is definitely a way better than average watch and well worth restoring.

As Elgins go it may not be rare or very scarce but it's certainly uncommon as compared with a whole bunch of popular Elgin grades. It's well worth fixing.

A hunting case along the lines of the ones shown below would be appropriate:
