Help 1st time trying

    this is the 1st time trying the lending library, video programs with this new NAWCC site, and it will not play.
    I do have adobe flash player installed on my PC.
    Whats up :???::???::???:?

    Which program? You downloaded from the main site and the file would not play. Is that correct.

    @PatH volunteers in that area, perhaps she can help.

    I was trying to determine what you had seen.. The reference to PatH was to notify her that we were having that discussion. If you want to mention anyone in a thread, you may use the @ sign in front of their name and they will receive a notification that they have been mentioned.

    I believe the .flv file format was chosen several years ago because it was considered to be compact. However, the support for it in Windows is not good and it requires that you modify the Windows media player to support the Flash codec.

    I have suggested to the staff that the files should be converted to mp3 so they will be more accessible.

    I did not install the codecs on my computer, so I have not been able to run the videos. If you search with Google for .flv and Windows 10 (if that is what you are running) you will see tutorials and directions for where to find the tools.

    I will update this thread when I find out more about the plans for the Library videos. I was trying to run one of the Hamilton interview videos.

    Hi -

    I contacted headquarters earlier today, and the issue seems to be with browser security settings and Flash. This guidance is now posted on the web page where you access the video links. I tried changing my settings a few minutes ago. When I clicked on a video link, a black screen with the play arrow came up, but it didn't work when I clicked on the arrow to play the video. Having said that, I'm not a good test case since I use a Mac.

    If the video won't play for you it is probably because the security settings are blocking the Flash player.
    To change the settings in Chrome follow these instructions: Use or fix Flash audio & video - Computer - Google Chrome Help
    To change the settings in Windows Explorer follow these instructions: Enable Flash Player for Internet Explorer

    Tom, bangster and I were recently trying that in the moderator forum and it did not notify us. Doing something wrong?

    Well, @bangster and @shutterbug I will try it there to see if there is a difference. Just as a note, when you enter the "@" and start typing the persons name, it will give you a list of names to select from so you will know you spelled it right. When you save the post if the name does not show up as a link, something did not work.

    Yes, the moderators were discussing it. The "Alert User on Mention" feature seems to have not been set up properly or perhaps just does not work as I thought it did. I believe I made a change to the administrative settings to turn it on and we are now testing it.
