I am new to the world of vintage watches and I fear that I may be making all the beginners mistakes. I just bought a 1948 Lord Elgin because I loved the way it looks including a beautiful salmon colored dial. Now I am wondering if the produced such a dial. The seller did say it was professionally restored and I am wondering if the restorer took liberties with the color. Please help educate me, thank you Duke

Nice looking watch! You can't go wrong with Lord Elgin. I'd call it a copper dial - you could search Elgin copper dial and a bunch pop up.
The numbers and dots on the seconds bit are a little off center - I doubt Elgin would have let that be shipped.

I'd say it's correct, but you can always have a jeweler or watch repair person pull the movement out of the case for a closer inspection. FYI, Bulova collectors had intense discussions about the copper colored dials that showed up a dozen or so years ago. That prompted searches for ads until those results showed that indeed the copper dials existed...

I’d have to side with it being a redone dial but it is a very respectable job and Elgin absolutely made dials that color.-Cort
