I have an Elgin 14k Pocket Watch.

When I put the Serial No into the website www.elginnumbers.com it gives me the wrong information.

Its says my Watch is 7 Jewels, Key Wind, and nothing about it being 11k Gold.

I have also put the Serial No into www.pocketwatchdatebase.com, and again it gives the wrong information.

The Serial No on my watch is 22474254

It also has 21 Jewels.

See photos attached of my Watch, can anyone explain why I am getting the wrong information from 2 websites.

Thanks

Lee

Sorry, Please ignore this last thread,

I had missed a 2 out at the beginning of the Serial No, which is 22474254 ( I was putting in 2474254 by mistake ) however it it engraved Lord Elgin, ( it aslo says this in the information given on the elginnumbers.com website ) see photo, does this mean anything?

When it says Grade 450, what does that actually mean?
Elgin identified its different models by assigning them grade numbers. These are merely i.d. numbers, not evaluation numbers. Grade 450 is the number Elgin gave to its 21j Corsican" model 12-size Lord Elgin movement.

Those are beautiful! Too often I see the lovely Grade 450 movements as orphans, stripped out of gold cases for the melt price. That's how I got mine, which is now housed in a lower grade Gold Filled case, replacing a busted Grade 479. I did the same for an orphaned 451.

The Lord Elgin movements of that particular time, the 450 and 451, were sold exclusively in solid gold or platinum cases, if I'm remembering correctly. 452 "GM Wheeler' and 479 grades came in gold filled, though some were in solid gold.

Leealp 1, you have a very nice looking Elgin 450 "Corsican". The bow was based on Napoleon's hat, as explained in the following ad, which features exactly your model watch as far as I can tell.

Elgins don't seem to evoke as much collector interest as most other top brands, perhaps because Elgin made so many watches. 12-size watches aren't as sought after by collectors as larger watches. As a result, Elgin Grade 450, 451, and 543 (successor to Grades 450 and 451) are undervalued by collectors. They are fine, stylish watches, and relatively affordable to acquire. I have about a half dozen, all in solid 14k gold cases.

Leealp 1, on further reflection, your watch differs from the one in the ad I posted in two significant respects. The watch in the ad was in green gold, but with a white gold bezel and back. Your watch is all in yellow or green gold. More significant, your watch has Breguet hands. I am not 100% sure that all Grade 450 and 451 watches had the unusual hands shown in the adds and on my Grade 450s and Grade 451, but I think they probably did. If so, your watch has incorrect hands. Some of us are sticklers about details like that, especially since those unusual hands on those grades was a very distinctive feature of them. I suggest you try to find a set of those unusual hands.
