Hi all, I'm a newbie to this hobby. Almost a year now and have accumulated about 30 clocks so far and given most away to new homes. I have a question about a Hermle 1161-850B. When I wind the strike cable drum, it un-winds (free falls).
The drum click is working. I suspect a problem with the first gear (after the intermediate gear). But that is only a guess.
All suggestions before I try to disassemble are welcome.

You should be able to see the problem easily.

Using a much lighter weight can help prevent more damage during trouble shooting process.

The winding arbor is arbor #1 the next one up is arbor #2 etc.

Thanks. Used much lighter weight. I think the issue is the #2 arbor. The large wheel doesn't rotate with the arbor.

If #2 wheel is spinning on its arbor, that could be the cause of your problem.
It should be easy to check that, either assembled or disassembled.
Check all wheels for missing/bent teeth and bent arbors as that can/will disconnect a wheel train.
If you need a new Hermle wheel or wheels, they can be purchased from Black Forest Imports or from Butterworth or other suppliers. There should also be plenty of used ones available. I may have some in my archives if you are in need.
Best of luck,
Dick
