    Originality?

Just wanted to thank all of those who responded and helped me feel much more positive that this clock and case probably do belong together.

    Originality?

Thanks, Eric. I also thought about the fact that if there was a gong, there should be evidence where it was once attached to the case. I found none. Of course, it could have had a bell attached to the movement. I associate that with a French movement, though, but I really am only going on a...

    Originality?

Yes, Mike, the case is my major concern here, with the back door having the cloth insert that I would have thought was only used on striking clocks.

    Originality?

I am soliciting opinions on the originality of this clock. There are two things that make it suspect. The biggest is the door is generally what one would find on a chiming clock with the material insertion. The other is the screws that are going into the supports. These look older, but I can not...

    Disc pendulum with extension

I imagine they would go with clocks with more distance, as above. I have three clocks with the extension; one as pictured above, one is in a wooden case like a crystal regulator style, and one is in a brass case with a lower window for viewing the pendulum. Dell, unfortunately, not one of these...

I use the same approach as Eric in post #2 The only pressure comes from the weight of the plate.

    Cleaning Kundo sunburst dial

Thanks for the comments, Mun. I might be incorrect in my recollection, but I believe that when the number ring was removed, it was pretty close to my color underneath where the light did not fade it. I notice that our columns and pendulum are also a little different; so like you mentioned, maybe...

Unknown 400-day clock maker - Mad hatter finials

Thanks, Graham. I think they were making it as simple as they could. I like it, too, and have only seen pictures of one other like it. Of course, I have not been searching, though.

Unknown 400-day clock maker - Mad hatter finials

Ken, I just noticed all of my Kundos are of the transistor style and all my ATO/Junghans have the two leaf contacts. Yes, the Seth Thomas one is by Kundo. Good luck with it. You could find a lot of posts in the electric horology section dealing with these clocks.

    4-pillar Kundo in chrome

Very similar indeed. I would assume yours is older since there is no cup. And it has a unmolested eccentric!

Unknown 400-day clock maker - Mad hatter finials

Ken, it is a Kundo electromagnetic. It has a stationary coil that a pendulum with a curved magnet goes through as it goes back and forth. This particular one has a transistor that times the impulse from the coil that pushes the pendulum. Personally, I like their earlier type that has contacts on...

Unknown 400-day clock maker - Mad hatter finials

Here is my low end mad hatter. It is special to me because it was the first "older" anniversary I owned. I walked by it in an antique shop where it was sitting on the floor and noticed the wide plates. I told him I would be interested in trying to fix it and he said $10. When I got it home I...

    4-pillar Kundo in chrome

I have a similar clock; even has a similar eccentric. I liked the surround. It seemed a bit unusual and looks to be gold wash.

    Cleaning Kundo sunburst dial

This is what it looks like; the face is probably a shade darker in real life.

    Cleaning Kundo sunburst dial

I have the same clock, also green. The legs and pendulum on the Mayer are more flat in color and not metallic as the face. At least, I believe I learned on this board that that is original. I think you will find the face to be a darker green when you remove the chapter ring. I had to redo the...

Lacquer, what am I doing wrong?

I live in SC and humidity is very high also in summer. Lower in winter. Using lacquer bought in local stores never gave me a finish I was happy with. I bought Mohawk lacquer online and have been pleased with the results. I am sure there are other brands just as good. Waxing looks great, but does...
